The Texas Tommy hot dog is an old-time favorite, but this one's for you, if you prefer crispy bacon. It has the same great flavor as always!
This deconstructed Texas tommy was made for all those who are not fond of the chewy bacon. We prefer our bacon crisp and this is the way to do it without losing the taste of the true Texas tommy.
To make a true Texas Tommy, cut the hot dog in half, then add a slice of cheese. Next, take a piece of bacon and wrap it around the hot dog and secure it with a toothpick. Now, grill or cook the hot dog any way you want.
Some really good sandwiches have come from the Philadelphia area and the Texas tommy is one of them. The other of course is the Philly cheese steak. They have been around for a long time which makes them a favorite.

Ingredients for the deconstructed Texas tommy:

Making the Texas Tommys:
Make your bacon crisp. We used a griddle, but you can do this in the oven or Microwave. Set bacon strips on a paper towel to absorb some of the grease. Cut them into small pieces by hitting them.

Now, take the buns and butter them with soft butter. Put them on a grill or a pan and cook them until they brown and are a little crusty.

Cook your hot dogs; we used a grill, but you can cook them any way that you want; in the microwave, in a pan, even boiling them. Then, cut the hot dogs in half, and put some of the bacon pieces onto the sliced hot dogs.

Top the bacon with slices of cheese, such as yellow American, then melt slightly.

The hot dogs are now ready to be put into the buns and enjoyed.
