When fall comes around, that is the time for apples. What is the first thought that comes to mind? An apple pie!
We think this is the best-tasting apple pie. It is sweet and has all the delicious fall flavors. We know there are other fruit pies you can make, but apple is a classic. Everyone seems to enjoy a slice when the fresh apples come into season.
It is good with a nice cup of coffee or a cold glass of milk in the morning. It can also be a great fall dessert or even a snack while watching a good movie at night. It is the kind of dessert that pleases everyone at any time.
We try using crispy apples because they hold up better in a pie and don't get mushy. Some of the best are Granny smith, Fuji, Gala, or Cortland varieties.
Ingredients for this best tasting apple pie:
- Double pie crust
- Sliced apples
- Lemon
- Butter
- White sugar
- Brown sugar
- All-Purpose Flour
- Cinnamon
- Nutmeg
- Apple juice

Making the pie:
First, have your pie crust ready. We use our double pie crust and make it in the Cuisinart; it is fast.
Next, peel, core, and slice the apples. Add the lemon juice to the apples and set aside.

Next, melt the butter in a saucepan or skillet. Once melted, add the flour, brown sugar, white sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and apple juice. Mix until smooth; you might need to add a little more apple juice. Then, pour the mixture over the apples and mix. After that, pour into the bottom crust and top with the pieces of butter. Add the second crust on top to the pie, making slits and crimping the edges.

Mix the egg with 2 Tablespoons of water and bast it on the top of the pie crust.

Bake at 425ºF for the first 12 minutes, then lower temperature to 350ºF and bake for 40-45 minutes until the filling oozes out and the pie crust is golden.

Things to add to your pie:
- Vanilla ice cream
- Vanilla sauce
- Slice of sharp cheese
