Best Hot Chocolate

Ingredients

  • 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • dash of salt
  • 1/2-3/4 cups sugar *
  • 2 1/4 cups whole milk
  • 2 cups half & half
  • 1/4 cup bittersweet chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

 

Instructions

  1. In a medium saucepan, add the cocoa, salt, and sugar and whisk.
  2. Now, add the whole milk and half & half and mix thoroughly, then cook on medium heat until it comes to almost a boil, but very hot.
  3. Now is the time to add the bittersweet and semi-sweet chocolate chips. Stir until all of the chips are completely dissolved.
  4. Add the vanilla extract and enjoy with toppings such as whipped cream, marshmallows, and candy canes.

Notes

*The amount of sugar used depends on how sweet you want your hot chocolate. If you want yours very sweet, add 3/4 cup sugar. If you want it less sweet, add 1/2 cup sugar. 2/3 cup sugar is about in between 1/2 cup and 3/4 cup.
