simple syrup in a clear bowl this Recipe

    Delicious simple syrup

Simple syrup sounds like something that is sweet and that can be made...well...simply. This is true; it doesn't take long and you use just two ingredients. This syrup is used in many drinks for a nice, sweet flavor. Think lemon-limeade sweetened on a nice hot day or added to a cocktail. It just adds to the flavor!

Simple syrup is stored in the refrigerator so you can pull it in anything, anytime that you want.

    Just 2 little ingredients:

Silver saucepan next to bol of sugar and a cup of water

    Simple syrup ingredients

All that is needed is one cup of sugar and one cup of water, mix them together and let it come to a boil.

Adding water to the sugar in a silver aucepan

    Adding water to sugar

Once your sugar water solution has come to a boil, bring it to a simmer and cook for about 5 minutes. You want the sugar to dissolve in the water. Nobody likes grainy syrup, are we right?

We like it added to our tea instead of sugar. You can also infuse the syrup while it is simmering with whatever taste that you want. You can add mint if you want  to add another taste to your drinks. Simple syrup is also used in iced tea and in many cocktails to add that little bit of sweetness.

    Ingredients

    Scale
    • 1 cup sugar
    • 1 cup water

    Instructions

    1. Put the two ingredients into a saucepan and mix together. Bring to a boil, then simmer, covered, for about 5 minutes. Take off the burner and let cool.
    2. Store in the refrigerator until chilled.
    3. Add to drinks such as iced tea, lemonade or cocktails.

    Notes

    * You can add a cinnamon stick to the syrup while it is cooking for  spicy sweet addition to a drink or maybe some mint leaves cooked and drained for a mint lemonade. Try what you like to the syrup, make it your own addition.
