Canned salmon salad
Salmon salad sitting on a bed of lettuce
If you are the type of person that enjoys salmon salad this is a recipe that you should give a try. I am not a big seafood person but I do like this. It is kind of like a tuna salad but with salmon. It is a good alternative to meat. It is made with ingredients that you usually have on hand and the salad can be put together in no time.
There are two reasons why I enjoy this dish. 1.) it is not an overpowering fish flavor and 2.) it is a quick weeknight meal if you don't have anything already prepared. The most time-consuming step in this meal is taking the skin and bones from the salmon after you take it out of the can. It really only takes about five minutes to do. There is also salmon you can buy that is already cleaned up. I have used this forever, so I am always using this kind of salmon.
Salmon chunks cleaned and ready for a salad
When the salmon is clean put it onto a plate of lettuce and start cutting the salad up together. Cut the salmon and lettuce together until they are all mixed.

Now it is time to add the mayonnaise. It is not exact, but really like making tuna fish; you add enough to moisten the salad till your liking. I know in our family, some people like more mayonnaise while others are fine with less. Make it your way, it will be good any way you make it!
Ingredients
- 1 can red sockeye salmon
- ½ head of lettuce
- Mayonnaise
Instructions
- Take the salmon out of the can and clean it up by discarding the bones and some skin there is on it. Then just break it into pieces and put into the refrigerator while you get your lettuce ready.
- Put the lettuce on a large plate or platter
- Add the salmon to the lettuce and cut everything together
- Add mayonnaise, enough to moisten the salad to your liking
- Chop the mayonnaise up with the lettuce and salmon
Notes
I think this salad tastes exceptionally good with some macaroni, I like to use rotini. Then top the macaroni off with a tomato sauce. The tomato sauce I use is really good with this.
