Burrata is a unique cheese that we have been seeing more and more on restaurant menus. It is essentially a fresh mozzarella ball, filled with a creamy texture similar to ricotta or cottage cheese. This Burrata appetizer is loaded with flavor and is quick to make.

Burrata appetizer this Recipe

Burrata cheese makes a wonderful appetizer. When cut open, it has that wow factor. The cheese tastes very creamy and has a buttery taste. People who have never had burrata before are surprised at how the soft cheese seems to fall out of its shell.

This is also a very quick appetizer to make. Put your cheese ball in the center and add prosciutto, salami, roasted tomatoes, or cherry tomatoes, cut up. Add some arugula to finish the dish. You can always add some extra deli meat, if you'd like.

Top off your appetizer with a drizzling of extra virgin olive oil and balsamic reduction for even more flavor.

We like to finish the Burrata appetizer with some toasted French bread. Just slice it on the diagonal, spread olive oil on both sides of the bread, and toast for 2 to 3 minutes in the oven. Turn the bread over and toast the other side for another 2 to 3 minutes or until lightly browned. Take out of the oven and rub each piece with a clove of garlic; you will only need one.

Ingredients

  • Burrata cheese - They are usually sold in packages of two.
  • Roasted grape tomatoes - You can make these with cherry tomatoes as well as grape tomatoes.
  • Salami - Goes well with the roasted tomatoes and flavored oil.
  • Prosciutto - Another great flavor, like an antipasta.
  • Arugula - Gives color and flavor to the bread.
  • French bread - We toast the bread in diagonal slices for about 2 to 3 minutes each side, then rub the pieces with a clove of garlic. You can also use a baguette.
  • Chopped cucumbers - For a bit of crunch.
  • Extra virgin olive oil - gives a nice flavor drizzled over the cheese and arugula.
  • Balsamic Glaze - It adds a nice sweetness to the cheese and arugula.

Making the Burrata appetizer:

Take a loaf of French bread and slice it into pieces. Then, lay the pieces onto a sheet pan.

Take some extra virgin olive oil and spread it on both sides of the bread. Place the bread in the oven at 375ºF for approximately 2 to 3 minutes. Then, turn over each piece and cook for another 1 to 2 minutes. Remove from the oven and rub a clove of garlic onto each piece.

While the bread is baking, place the cheese in the center of the plate. Put some of the arugula next to the cheese. At the bottom of the cheese, put a nice amount of grape tomatoes.

On the other side of the cheese, place the salami and prosciutto onto the plate. Set a small container of chopped cucumber next to the plate.

Slice the cheese in half so that the creamy center of the cheese is showing.

Drizzle some olive oil and Balsamic glaze over the cheese and arugula.
