This delicious beverage is a great thirst quencher! If you are a big watermelon fan when summer rolls around, you are not alone; our family loves it too. When you add the taste of watermelon to lemonade, you have the essential summer beverage.
We know that the temperature has been extremely hot in the summer, sometimes over 100ºF. Taking a swim in the pool, a walk around the block, or even a backyard barbecue makes people hot and thirsty. This is the time you should have a great drink in your hand just to keep hydrated. This watermelon lemonade is just the drink to quench your thirst!
The good part of this summer beverage is the fact that you are only using a few ingredients. You will need fresh watermelon, lemons, simple syrup, water, and ice. The simple syrup you can make ahead of time and refrigerate whenever you need it for a drink.
Ingredients for Watermelon Lemonade:
- Watermelon- It is a great summer fruit that almost everyone loves. Make sure if you buy a whole watermelon, it has a nice yellow spot on it; seems to always be ripe. See how to pick out a watermelon.
- Lemon juice- An obvious must for a great lemonade. Great for some tang in drinks.
- Simple syrup- A great sweet syrup to add to your fruit drinks, teas, and coffee. No worries about your sugar dissolving, it already is. You can keep it in the refrigerator.
- Water- Helps dilute some of the juices in the drink, and adds more quantity.
Making this summer beverage:
To make watermelon lemonade, we first made a batch of simple syrup. This is super easy to make. This plain syrup can be stored in a tight container for about 1 month in the refrigerator, so you have it when needed.
Next, put 4 cups of watermelon into the blender or Cuisinart; we cut them up into chunks first so it is easy to blend. Blend the watermelon for a few seconds until the chunks are all liquid.
Pour the watermelon juice into a strainer to make sure there are no pieces of watermelon or seeds in the mix.
The watermelon lemonade is almost ready. Just pour the watermelon juice into a bowl and add the lemon juice, simple syrup, and water to a bowl or pitcher and mix. Now is the time to pour everything into a pitcher, if you haven't already done that, and add some ice. Garnish this beverage with a wedge of watermelon or a slice of lemon and enjoy!
Now that is a great presentation of watermelon lemonade! One of our nicest presentations we've done so far (don't you think?). It tastes like lemonade should taste, plus an extra special flavor with the watermelon. Drink up this summer!
