Potato Bar this Recipe

If you want a meal everyone will like, just pop some baked potatoes in the oven and set out toppings for a potato bar. We have found that no one in this family wants to miss the potato bar. Baked potatoes are a very popular side for you meals and with the potato bar, they become the star!

A potato bar can be very simple to make with just a few ingredients, or it can be a bar with a lot of toppings for a party. You have the choice of setting out the toppings that you want.

We like to start with some meat items, maybe leftovers you already have in the fridge. You can also use bought items like chili, taco, or sloppy joe meat. We like to use chipped beef, diced ham, or bacon because they go well with potatoes.

Don't forget the cheese sauce, shredded cheese, sour cream, and chives. They are a staple with a baked potato.

Some toppings for a potato bar:

  • Butter
  • Sour cream
  • Chives
  • Cheese (It can be a sauce or just shredded)
  • Macaroni and cheese
  • Hamburgers
  • Chipped beef
  • Diced ham, sauteed
  • Barbecued chicken
  • Broccoli
  • Corn

Ingredients:

  • Baking Potatoes- We use russet potatoes because they have a thicker skin than white or yellow potatoes. Their skin becomes crispy and the potato is nice and fluffy.
  • Butter- Gives that great buttery taste to the potato.
  • Cheese Sauce- We like the flavor of cheese sauce throughout the potato, but you can use shredded cheese, if you'd like.
  • Bacon- Gives your potato a little smoky, crispy, and meaty flavor, and ho doesn't like bacon?
  • Sour Cream - Gives a creamy slightly sour taste to your potato.

Making the baked potato:

Take a large russet baking potato and scrub it very well. Dry the potato off and poke it with a fork or sharp pointy knife a few times, so there is no chance of the potato exploding in the oven. Rub vegetable oil on the potato for extra crispiness and bake.

When the potato is done, slice the top of the potato from one end to the other, and then push it together at both ends. This helps the potato to fluff up. Now, take a fork and fluff the potato a little more.

Now, fill your potato with all your favorite toppings from the potato bar.
